Wales is one of the most naturally beautiful and historically rich parts of the United Kingdom. The unique culture and the stunning, wide open landscapes are attracting tourists from all over the world. Although the national parks of Wales are always guaranteed to have throngs of visitors, the cities are not one bit less attractive. Welsh cities are cultural and economic hubs, so regardless of what sorts of attractions you are looking for, you will definitely find something to entertain you. Here’s a list of the best cities in Wales, for prospective visitors.

Aberystwyth, Ceredigion

Although the capital of Wales is Cardiff, many Welsh are of the opinion that Aberystwyth is the true capital of the country. The town is not very large, but large enough to have more than enough attractions. It is the heart of Wales’s nationalist region, and Welsh language is held in very high regard here. Aberystwyth is also a lively university town, and according to a student legend, there’s a pub in town for every week of the year.

Bangor, Gwynedd

Another picturesque university town, Bangor has quite a famous university and some very attractive sights. Although the small coastal city does not have much in the way of traditional attractions, it is a very pleasant place and it’s a pleasure to get lost in it. The city is overlooking the Menai Strait, which looks spectacular at sunset, and it is also a base of exploration for Snowdonia National Park.

Caernarfon, Gwynedd

Caernarfon is a royal town in Gwynedd, famous for its breath-taking castle, the most well preserved in Wales. The town is also considered as a stronghold of Welsh language, and if you want to study the language or just listen to it, this is the best place for it. Caernarfon Castle is the most famous sight in the city, but don’t miss lesser known attractions like Black Boy Inn or Segontium.

Tenby, Pembrokeshire

The medieval walled town if Tenby sprawls around a bay and some very nice sandy beaches, so it’s no wonder that it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Wales. The historic center of the town is well preserved and its cobbled streets are pedestrian only. Visit historical attractions, lounge on the beach, or just walk around the old town and take breaks at charming cafes.

Cardiff, Glamorgan

The capital of Wales, and its largest urban area could not possibly missĀ  from a list of best cities in Wales. Cardiff used to be an industrial city with not much to see in the past, but now it is attracting loads of tourists every year, and for good reason. The city is full of amazing modern architecture, shopping centers and a huge number of green spaces.
